Chesterfield Playgoers Society presents The Stirrings in Sheffield on a Saturday Night by Alan Cullen
|
“A musical documentary set against the backdrop of music hall, revue sketch, monologue and folk song, the play chronicles the violent stirrings in the Sheffield politics of the 1860’s.
The central problems then as now, were, wages and prices: the unions fighting the small employer and the machine: a new business attempting to compete with a monopoly.”
The play was first produced at Sheffield Playouse in the 1960s and is based on historical facts.

Reform Theatre Company present Thick as Thieves
|
Thick as Thieves is a vibrant new comedy by Mark Whiteley that takes the audience into the comically dark underbelly of the world of small-time criminals.
Friends Steph and Barry have never been model citizens but they are finding it increasingly hard to stay on the straight and narrow. When the pair decide to turn their hands to housebreaking it leads to hilarious consequences.
Our hapless duo has to contend with, amongst other things, shopping deliveries, nosey neighbours, a dead budgie and a shocking discovery that could change their lives forever. As the night becomes more frantic and frenzied the pair realise that life in crime isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
