Arts In The Bar Jazz
|
Monday 20 September The Dizzy Club You are just as likely to find The Dizzys performing for a club full of twenty something cool cats or to an audience of Trad Jazz fans. Their repertoire is full of artistic contradictions. With influences of Hot Club, 40’s swing, Blue note Soul and Sinatra often with Latin rhythms gives them an edge most bands would die for.
Monday 18 October Verona Chard Taking as its main theme and inspiration the words of William Shakespeare, FEVER features arrangements of music by John Dankworth, Galt MacDermot, Rodgers and Hart, Cole Porter, Stephen Sondheim, Humphrey Lyttelton, Hirsch and Kaplan, Elton John, Ann Ronell plus Cooley and Davenport and Verona will be playing some of these songs plus newly arranged material all inspired by ‘The Bard’.
Monday 15 November The Dark Side of the Lounge The lush phased electric piano, sultry vibes and bossa beat married up with sub-harmonic bliss and sensual vocalsto create what we know now as “The Dark Side of the lounge”. A classic rock anthem given the Frank Sinatra treatment, an electro masterpiece goes Austin Powers, Britpop meets bhangra, urban r&b floorfiller now latin-luster… contempory classics with a sexy funky facelift.
Monday 13 December Nicola Farnon A classic singer/double bass player - whether in the Ella Fitzgerald swing or Dusty Springfield soul mould - and widely recognised as one of the classiest and accomplished jazz/swing vocalists in the UK Nicola is currently making a name for herself on the international scene with her ‘Divas of Song’ show. Appearing with Chris Walker – guitar Henrik Linnemann – Flute
Monday 24 January 2011 Djangonauts Their contemporary take on the Gypsy Jazz style, original arrangements and virtuoso technique have delighted audiences throughout the North of England.
